Vero Beach Octopus 100 Miler

One of the toughest footraces in Florida, the Vero Beach Octopus 100 miler takes runners through many incredible and difficult Florida ecosystems. With an average finisher rate of 15%, this years VBOO was a tough but incredible adventure

Funest 50k

In Florida, mountain bike trails are the closest you'll get to running in the mountains, and while not quite the same as ACTUAL mountains, these trails will still tear up your quads and give you a taste of bombing downhills, and they are such a unique challenge.

Georgia Death Race 74 Miler

The 2023 Georgia Death Race is one of the most difficult east coast ultramarathons, featuring some massive vert gain and strict cut-offs. Having completed the Cruel Jewel 100, I'll say that this is easily the second most difficult course I've run, and if it was a full 100 miler then it may rank even tougher than Cruel Jewel.

Across Florida 200 Miler

This full-length self-shot documentary follows Mike and Matt as they attempt to set the course record for the Across Florida 200, a 200 mile ultra that takes runners across (and up) Florida utilizing trails, highways, and back country roads.

Just Survive 125 Miler

During this 125 mile race, runners rely on 4 five gallon buckets, placed every 15 or so miles, packed with whatever they can fit. No other outside aid is permitted, and the only objective is to Just Survive. Additionally, no GPS is allowed, leaving runners to utilize the spray-painted blazes and occasional sign to navigate the Ocean to Lake Trail.

Forgotten Florida 100 Miler

As my previous race videos have shown, Florida has much more to offer than it’s beaches and “Florida Man” stories. The Forgotten Florida trail race is an experience into what a vast majority of Florida has to offer, and RD Sean “Run Bum” Blanton put together one amazing course. Highlighting the beautiful Florida trail, wide open farmlands, and jungle-like forests, the race takes runners through an incredible point-to-point journey that should be on every trail runners bucket list.

ACROSS FLORIDA 200

The Across Florida 200 was a truly lifechanging event, and I want to share this journey and inspire anyone crazy enough to take it on. In this link I provide step-by-step directions for the course, as well as GPS coordinates for crew stops and points of interest.

The Torin 7's are my favorite road shoe right now, offering a good balance of comfort and speed (though leaning more toward comfort!). In this review I explain why they are my main shoe for everyday training, as well as racing longer distances such as marathons and ultramarathons.

Smartwool Socks

I love Smartwool socks, and have been meaning to make a review on them for some time. While they're expensive, I find the money is well spent during long races and multi day events where the risk of foot injury is great and the consequences could mean the end of a race.

Salty Britches Anti-Chafe

Salty Britches is my favorite anti-chafe ointment for running, hiking, or pretty much any scenario where chafing will ruin my day. I've used it on ultramarathons, as well as on my kids diaper rash. Fenix HM65R-T Headlamp

The Fenix HM65R-T is my #1 choice for ultra running, camping, and general use around my house. It's lacking some of the features found in much cheaper options, but the insane brightness, solid build quality, and long lasting battery life make this an incredible value. This is the only headlamp that will find it's way into my bag no matter what adventure I'm planning.

Black Diamond Storm 400 Headlamp

The Black Diamond Storm isn't perfect, but it's still a great headlight that I've used on many 100 mile ultramarathons. I hope this detailed breakdown of the Storm helps you decide if the Storm is right for you!

Vero Beach Octopus Ultra Survival Guide

The Vero Beach Octopus Ultra has a very special place in my heart. It was the first ultra I ever finished (50 miler) and the race that showed me just how deep I could dig when I REALLY wanted something. I made this ""Survival Guide" to help other runners and crew who are unfamiliar with the course in an attempt to prepare them for the challenge ahead.
